The Field House
This 65,000-square-foot area, built in 2017, features four multipurpose performance courts and netting for basketball, volleyball, and tennis. The home of Ripon's Indoor Track & Field team, this space also includes an NCAA-regulation indoor track with 200-meter straightaway, named in honor of former Red Hawks track star Dan Sutter '01, full field events, four performance courts for basketball, volleyball, or tennis, and retractable nets.
The Indoor Track is named after Doug and Audrey Lyke, who owned and operated Ripon Printers and The Ripon Commonwealth Press for more than a half century. They are widely recognized for their dedication and loyalty as community leaders and supporters. Audrey served on the Ripon College Board of Trustees from 1988-2007, and became an Honorary Life Trustee in 2008.
The track's Straightaway is named after Daniel Sutter '01, who was one of the fastest sprinters the Ripon College track team has ever seen, and still holds school records in the hurdles. Dan was a three-time private college champion in the event, held Ripon's outdoor 110 high hurdle record and ranks highly in career points scored for the Ripon track team. He also played football for Ripon. After graduation, Dan worked as a salesman for General Beer and served as an assistant track coach for the Red Hawks. He was inducted into the Ripon College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. Dan died of cancer in 2013 at the age of 34.
The Performance Courts inside the Field House are named for Ron and Loretta Law Peterson. Ron Peterson '70 joined the Ripon College Board of Trustees in 2004 and served in a variety of roles, including chairman. He has been recognized as one of the country's leading restructuring lawyers. Loretta is a CPA. Ron and Loretta are staunch supporters of Ripon College, providing numerous amounts of what Ron affectionately refers to as "gray matter, green paper and brown shoe leather."
