After a career as a solid force on Ripon’s football and basketball teams, Cliff Halverson wasted no time in returning to serve his alma mater. While doing post graduate work in education, he coached Ripon’s freshman basketball team, becoming an “excellent” coach and team builder. It was his own distinguished efforts as a team member that won students’ respect when he took on his coaching role. Cliff, despite being sidelined due to illness for several games, led the Midwest Conference in scoring for basketball during his senior year. He was known for his “smooth floor work as well as clean, snappy cooperation with the rest of the team,” and was the only Ripon player his senior year to make the Midwest Honorary Five. In football, Cliff was known as a “consistent ground gainer,” and was an important cog in both the passing and running game.
