During his years at Ripon, Jim Rember was a cornerstone of the Redmen basketball and football teams. Selected to the All-Midwest Conference squads in both sports, Rember helped the Redmen to a conference basketball championship in 1940 and a football championship the following year. His prowess on the hardwood moved even a Lawrence University sportswriter, writing in his own “Lawrentian,” to proclaim Rember “the best all-around player in the conference.” His athletic ability, however, was not limited to these two major sports. In 1939, as a sophomore, Rember won Ripon’s heavyweight boxing championship.
