James Clark is an outstanding example of the type of student-athlete that Ripon College’s reputation has been built upon. The 1968 winner of the Midwest Conference’s Roy LeClerc Trophy, which goes to the athlete in the conference with the highest grade point, Clark was the Redmen’s top pass receiver during the 1966 and 1967 football seasons. He was named to the Midwest Conference’s First Team All-Conference baseball and Second Team All-Conference football squads in both his junior and senior years. During the winter season, he was considered one of basketball’s best “sixth men” in the conference. In only three years of eligibility, Clark earned nine athletic letters. At the end of his college career, he received the College’s prestigious S.N. Pickard Award.
