Dick Celichowski’s athletic versatility was evident on the Ripon football field where he started as halfback on offense, defensive back and also punted. In 1957, the same year the undefeated Redmen captured the Midwest Conference title, Celichowski was elected co-captain and named most valuable player of the Redmen team. Celichowski remains one of Ripon’s top scorers with a 198 point career total accumulated during his three years of eligibility. Earning letters in basketball and track, Dick Celichowski’s athletic ability spanned a wide range. He participated in the long jump, dashes and relay events. In 1959 and 1960, he finished second in the conference in the long jump. Celichowski broke a forty-seven year-old school record when he entered the quarter-mile event for the first and only time. In 1960, Celichowski was named Ripon College’s Athlete of the Year.
