An all-around athlete and winner of 11 athletic letters, Bob Kloss was a member of the football, basketball and track teams during his years at Ripon College. On the Redmen football team, Kloss’ wide range of athletic talent was apparent in his play as a quarterback, running back, defensive back and punter. Kloss started every basketball game during his career at Ripon with the exception of two during his junior year due to a football injury. His basketball ability was recognized with an All-Conference honorable mention in 1947 and 1948. Kloss’ desire to coach began during his senior year when he taught and coached at Ripon High School. After Ripon, Kloss continued coaching at LaCrosse and Green Bay High Schools, and in 1982, was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
