RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon offense exploded Thursday afternoon, to the tune of a 10-0 victory over Finlandia University. More than half of those goals came from sophomore Brandi Peltier, who scored six times, breaking the previous school record of five goals in a single game. The Red Hawks displayed good teamwork throughout the game, as they recorded 11 assists on their 10 goals.
It didn't take long for Peltier to record her fifth career hat trick, which is one shy of Ripon's career record. She was able to accomplish the feat in the first 23 minutes of Thursday's game. Her first goal came in the 11th minute on an assist from Lexi Soich. Eight minutes later, Taylor Ziebol fed Peltier for her second goal. The Neosha, Wis. native's third goal came on the 23rd minute on assists from Alex Jirik and Blair Braun. Kali Doerr and Amy Reuling also got on the board in the first half, with both goals coming in the final two minutes of the period.
Ripon (6-4-0) continued to find the net in the second half, as Alyssa Kennedy started the scoring with a goal on a Rachel Zeman assist. After that, Peltier took over again, first scoring on a header in the 54th minute off a pass from Jirik, then tying the school record in the 67th minute with the assist going to Ariel Berres-Green. Five minutes later, Peltier broke the record with her sixth goal of the game thanks to an assist from Kavanya Gray. Krista Oelhafen added another goal for good measure, giving the Red Hawks their sixth-most single game goals (10) in program history.
The Red Hawks outshot Finlandia 43-0, with 22 of those shots coming in the second half. GoalKeeper Sidney Blodgett played the entire game for Ripon without facing a shot, while her counterpart, Alexis Coll, saved 16 shots while playing all 90 minutes for Finlandia (2-9-0).
Ripon will get back into conference play this weekend, as they'll travel to Illinois College on Saturday. That game will begin at 11 a.m. in Jacksonville, Ill.
