Red Hawks Play To A Tie In High Scoring Affair

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. -
The goals came early and often on Saturday for both Cornell and Ripon, as the two teams combined for three goals in the first 12 minutes and six in the first 45. Despite the flurry of goals, neither team held more than a one goal lead in the contest, which ended with the teams deadlocked at four after two overtimes, marking the first tie of the season for both squads.

Brandi Peltier got the game started on a positive note for the Red Hawks (7-5-1, 3-2-1 MWC), breaking a scoreless tie with a goal in the ninth minute, giving her 17 goals on the season and tying Ripon's career goals scored record with her 62nd in a Red Hawk uniform. That lead lasted all of 17 seconds, as Cornell's Emily Snider found the net for her 15th goal of the season on an assist by Bethany Stivers. Two and a half minutes later, it was Ripon's turn again, as Kaylee Tadych's sixth goal of the season gave Ripon a 2-1 lead on an assist from Alyssa Kennedy.

That lead lasted until the 24th minute when Bethany Stivers scored two goals for Cornell (5-7-1, 1-4-1 MWC) in a span of three and a half minutes, with both goals assisted by Kendra Wisely. The Red Hawks would tie the game yet again with just under two minutes remaining in the half when Kennedy knocked in her third goal of the season on an assist from Tadych.

That tie was broken in the 58th minute on Alexandra Jirik's second goal of the season thanks to Tadych's second assist of the game. That score was answered again by Stivers, who found the net in the 80th minute for her third goal of the game on an assist by Megan Charlton.

Both teams had their opportunities in the two overtime periods, with Ripon outshooting Cornell 5-4, but neither could find the net in those extra 20 minutes.

Ripon's Sidney Blodgett played all 110 minutes in goal for the Red Hawks, saving seven shots. Her counterpart, Chelsea Harris also played the entire game for the Rams, recording nine saves.

Ripon will now go on the road to play Grinnell College next Saturday. That game will begin at 11 a.m. in Grinnell, Iowa.
