Red Hawks Fall To Marian In Season Opener

Coming off their best season in nearly two decades in 2012, the Ripon women's soccer team opened their 2013 schedule with a 2-0 loss at Marian University. The Red Hawks allowed both goals in the first half and could never recover.

Marian (1-0) broke a scoreless tie in the 27th minute when Mikaila Johnson found the net with a cross to the box from about 10 yards out on a pass from Brittany Syms. The Sabres added a second goal nine minutes later on a goal by Syms, who beat Ripon's defense to score inside the far right post.

Marian out shot the Red Hawks (0-1) 18-9 in the game, with the second half shot totals tied at five. Ripon's Sydney Blodgett saved 10 shots on the night, while playing all 90 minutes. Her counterpart, Caitlyn Rosenberger also played the entire game, saving six shots, en route to the shutout.

The Red Hawks will try to break into the win column on Saturday when they'll host Lakeland College in what is their 2013 home opener. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. and can be seen live at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/ripon.portal#.
