RIPON, Wis. - Saturday afternoon, the Ripon College women's soccer team honored the life of teammate Taylor Ziebol, who passed away in a car accident in July. On a day where the joy of victory and the agony of defeat somewhat took a backseat to other emotions, the Red Hawks came out on top with a 4-0 victory over Lakeland College in their 2013 home opener to earn their first victory of the season.
The Red Hawks (1-1) showed flashes of the future as freshman Kaylee Tadych recorded two goals and two assists, with the other two goals coming from junior Brandi Peltier, who also had two assists. Tadych's first goal came in the 19th minute on a breakaway and was the only goal in the first period. She added her second in the 49th minute. Peltier then got into the action shortly thereafter, scoring in the 52nd and 55th minutes. That gives Peltier 47 career goals, which is 15 shy of the school's career record.
Ripon Goal Keeper Sidney Blodgett saved two shots on the day, while playing the entire game, en route to the shutout. Lakeland's Jessica Carter also played all 90 minutes between the pipes, saving 11 shots.
The Red Hawks will be back in action on Friday when they'll host Maranatha Baptist Bible College. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon.
