FOND Du LAC, Wis. - For the third time in the past four years, the Ripon women's tennis team has opened its season with a victory over Marian University. The Red Hawks downed the Sabres 6-3 Friday afternoon behind four victories in singles play and two in doubles action.

In doubles play, senior Elizabeth Ake teamed up with freshman Maddie VandenHouten to coast to an 8-0 victory at the number one flight. Freshmen Lucero Pena and Maura Slattery were also victorious, winning by default at the third flight.

Ake and VandenHouten were also on top of their games during singles play. Ake won at the top flight, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0, while VandenHouten won her number two flight match, 6-3, 6-0. Pena also won her singles match by a score of 6-4, 6-1, while Slattery won her number six match by default.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday, as they'll travel to Waukesha, Wis. for a pair of matches against Carroll University and University of Dubuque.
