RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon women's tennis team played their first home match of the season Wednesday afternoon, losing to conference-rival Lawrence University, 8-1.

The Red Hawks' (1-6, 0-2 MWC North) only victory came at number one doubles, where Elizabeth Ake defeated Gayatri Malhotra, 6-3, 7-5. That improves Ake's singles record to 3-4 on the year, all while playing at the team's top spot.

In doubles play, Lawrence (4-4, 1-0 MWC North) won all three matches, by a combined score of 24-2.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Friday against St. Norbert College. That match will begin at 5 p.m. in Elm Grove, Wis.
