Three Second Half Goals Doom Red Hawks

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. -
Ripon scored the only goal of the first half against Edgewood College on Sunday, but that halftime lead would not be sustained. The Red Hawks allowed three goals in the final 20 minutes of the contest, en route to a 3-1 loss to the Eagles.

The Red Hawks (3-3) broke a scoreless tie in the 20th minute when Brandi Peltier netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season on an assist from Alyssa Kennedy.

That would be all the scoring until the 70th minute, which saw Jennifer Dailey tie things up for the Eagles (3-2). Seven and a half minutes later, Brianna Franken gave Edgewood the lead thanks to an assist by Emily Skaer. The Eagles added an insurance goal in the 87th minute when Jenna Mineau scored on a pass from Megan Schroeder.

Ripon Goal Keeper Sidney Blodgett played all 90 minutes between the posts, making 13 saves on the day. Edgewood's Tori Fortney also played the entire game in goal, saving one shot. The Red Hawks were outshot by the Eagles 18-4 in the game, including 12-1 in the second half.

The Red Hawks will try to rebound next weekend when they'll open Midwest Conference play on Saturday at Knox College. That game will begin at 11 a.m. in Galesburg, Ill.
