GALESBURG, Ill. - Junior
Brandi Peltier tied Ripon's school record for career hat tricks Saturday afternoon, scoring three goals in a game for the sixth time in her career. That also extends her consecutive games scored streak to six and it would be more than enough offense for the Red Hawks, as they defeated Knox College 6-1 in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams.
Despite Peltier's big day, it was freshman
Mikayla Huesman, who started off the scoring, recording her first career goal in the 15th minute to give Ripon (4-3, 1-0 MWC) the lead. Six minutes later, Peltier netted her first goal of the game on an assist by
Kaylee Tadych. In the 35th minute, Peltier was assisted by
Alyssa Kennedy to give Ripon a 3-0 lead. That lead would dwindle to 3-1 at halftime after an Own Goal gave Knox (5-3, 0-1 MWC) their only goal of the contest.
In the second half, Kennedy stayed active, scoring her first goal of the season on another assist from Tadych. Two minutes later, in the 55th minute, Peltier scored her third and final goal of the day, and ninth of the season, on an assist from
Chelsey Abler. Ripon would cap the scoring with less than two minutes to play when Tadych recorded her third assist of the day, finding
Kali Doerr for her second goal of the season.
Lyndsay Wilde played the entire game in goal for the Red Hawks, saving two shots in the process. Knox saw Rachael Koene and Theresa Birzer split time between the pipes, combining to save 11 shots on the day.
Ripon will for the weekend sweep on Sunday when they'll travel to Monmouth College. That game will begin at 11 a.m. in Monmouth, Ill.
