GALESBURG, Ill. - Ripon's women's tennis team lost both of their matches on Saturday, losing to Knox College, before falling to Beloit College in what was the first conference match of the season for both teams.

In their first match of the day, Knox (1-3) defeated the Red Hawks (1-5, 0-1 MWC North) by a score of 8-1. Ripon's only team point came from Elizabeth Akeand Madeline VandenHouten, who won their number one singles match, 8-6. In singles play, VanHouten also put up a fight at the number two flight, before losing 2-6, 6-3, 0-1.

Ripon's second match of the day also resulted in a loss, as Beloit defeated the Red Hawks, 9-0. Ripon's closest doubles match came at the top flight where Ake and VanHouten lost 8-3. In singles play, Maura Slattery was competitive at the number six flight, losing 2-6, 3-6.

The Red Hawks will try to end their current slide on Wednesday when they'll host Lawrence University in their 2013 home opener. That match will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Larson Courts in Ripon.
