MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - For the third season in as many years, the Ripon College women's soccer team has won at least 10 games. The Red Hawks clinched their third straight 10-win campaign with a 2-1 win Saturday at Cornell College. The victory puts them in third place in the Midwest Conference standings with two games to play, and gives them an opportunity to clinch their first-ever MWC Tournament berth with a victory Wednesday at St. Norbert College.
Saturday's win wasn't easy, as Ripon trailed Cornell 1-0 at halftime, after the Rams' Emily Snyder scored her school-record 20th goal of the season in the 29th minute on an assist from Megan Charlton. That's how the score would remain until the 75th minute when
Kaylee Tadych scored her ninth goal of the year for the Red Hawks on an assist from
Brandi Peltier. Nearly eight minutes later with just eight minutes remaining in regulation, Peltier gave Ripon their first and only lead of the contest with her team-leading 15th goal of the season to secure the victory, thanks to assists from Tadych and
Morgan Johnson.
Sidney Blodgett played the entire game in goal, making four saves for the Red Hawks (10-6-0, 6-2-0 MWC). Her counterpart, Kassi Todryk, saved two shots for Cornell (8-8-1, 4-5-0 MWC).
That sets up arguably the biggest game in program history on Wednesday against St. Norbert. That contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. in De Pere, Wis. and can be seen live atÂ
