Red Hawks Advance To MWC Tournament Championship Game

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Entering this season, Ripon hadn't defeated Carroll University in 14 years. They have now done so twice in the last month and a half, with their latest victory coming Friday in a 1-0 overtime thriller in the semi-finals of the Midwest Conference Tournament. The win advances the Red Hawks to the Championship Game of the Tournament in what is the program's first-ever appearance at the event, and extends their season-long winning streak to five games.

Just like this year's regular season meeting between these two teams, Brandi Peltier scored the game's only goal. The only complaint Ripon (13-6) may have had is that she waited 98 minutes to do so. After the two teams battled to a scoreless tie after two periods, Peltier waited until there was one minute and 28 seconds left in the extra period to score the game-winner. That gives her a team-leading 17 goals on the year and is the 82nd of her career, which ranks second in MWC history.

Sidney Blodgett was also outstanding for the Red Hawks, playing all 98 minutes at Goal Keeper, tying a season-high with 11 saves, while notching her seventh shutout of the season. That gives her 20 career shutouts, which is tied for fourth in MWC history. Her counterpart, Erica Paterson also played the entire game, saving six shots for Carroll (7-9-2).

The Red Hawks will now battle MWC regular season champion and 16th-ranked Lake Forest College (18-0) in the MWC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lake Forest, Ill.
