Box Score

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Ripon College women's soccer team flashed its potential Friday night and showed how truly special the 2014 season could be, defeating Lakeland College 6-0 in a game they led for the final 84 minutes. The Red Hawks also outshot the Muskies 29-6, with 17 of their shots coming in the first half.

Ripon's scoring barrage began in the sixth minute when Kaylee Tadych put the ball in the net on a rebound put back, with assists from both Brandi Peltier and Paige Birschbach. Three minutes later, Birschbach got into the action with her first collegiate goal on a header off a cross from Alexandra Jirik. Tadych added a second goal later in the half, thanks to an assist from Kyla Roberts, to give Ripon a three-goal lead at halftime.

The Red Hawks (1-0) continued to keep their foot on the gas in the second period. Peltier, who is already the program's all-time leading goal scorer, notched her first two goals of the season in the first 20 minutes of the half with assists going to Jamie Wegner and Jirik, respectively. Freshman Jessica Ochocki capped the scoring by finding the back of the net in the 87th minute with assists from both Tadych and Morgan Johnson.

Ripon Goal Keeper Sidney Blodgett added to her school record for career shutouts with the 14th of her career, as she saved six shots in her 90 minutes of action. Her counterpart Jessica Carter recorded nine saves, while also playing the full 90 minutes for Lakeland (0-1).

The Red Hawks will now get ready for their 2014 home opener on Tuesday against Marian University at 4 p.m., where they'll look to start the season 2-0 for the second time in three years.
