Box ScoreFOND Du LAC, Wis. - In their first match of the season, the Ripon women's tennis team lost by the slimmest of margins Friday afternoon. The Red Hawks lost by a final score of 5-4, despite winning half of their singles matches.
In singles,
Madeline VandenHouten rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the top flight, while teammates
Madeleine Salzer and
Lucero Pena also earned two-set victories. Salzer was victorious at the number three flight, 6-2, 6-4, while Pena won at the number four flight by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
The match came down to doubles play, which saw VandenHouten and
Courtney Olson team up for Ripon's only doubles victory, winning 8-4 at the top flight. Salzer and Pena nearly pulled out a victory in the second flight before losing 9-7, while
Lily Lenk and
Tenzin Tsephel fell 8-4 in the third flight.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll battle the University of Dubuque at Noon in Ripon.
