Box Score RIPON, Wis. - Ripon defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 6-0 Sunday afternoon behind
Paige Birschbach's first hat trick as a member of the Red Hawks. That marks Ripon's first hat trick since Brandi Peltier did the honors last season. Birschbach also added two assists on the day, giving her eight total points, which is the most by a Ripon player since Peltier scored 12 in a game during the 2012 season. The Red Hawks outshot Wisconsin Lutheran 33-3 in the game, marking the sixth time they've won the shot advantage in as many games.
Birschbach's first goal came in the 12th minute on an assist from
Rachel Bautzmann. Eight and a half minutes later, she and
Mikayla Huesman assisted on
Kaylee Tadych's fifth goal of the year.
Danielle Senger netted her second goal of the season later in the half, on an assist by Birschbach, who scored again one minute before halftime to send Ripon (4-2-0) to a 4-0 lead after the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Birschbach picked up right where she left off, scoring her sixth goal of the season just one and a half minutes into the period on assists by Tadych and
Isabella Kohl.
Morgan Johnson added her first goal as a Red Hawk to cap the scoring in the 69th minute thanks to an assist from
Kyla Roberts.
Goal Keeper
Sidney Blodgett recorded her school record 16th career shutout for the Red Hawks, making three saves in her 90 minutes of action. Blodgett has now posted three shutouts in Ripon's six games, allowing just six goals on the season, while playing all 540 minutes.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday in their 2014 Midwest Conference opener at Lake Forest College. That game will begin at 11 a.m. in Lake Forest, Ill.
