Box Score WATERTOWN, Wis. -,After 90 minutes of play Thursday night, Ripon and Maranatha Baptist were tied at two. Due to darkness, that's where the hard-fought battle would end.
Maranatha Baptist (1-1-1) got out to an early lead, scoring both of their goals in the first 25 minutes. The first came off the foot of Natascha Vinz in the 13th minute, while Alison Hernandez doubled the Sabres lead with a goal in the 25th minute. That lead was cut in half in the 38th minute when
Paige Birschbach got the Red Hawks on the board thanks to an assist from
Morgan Johnson.
Birschbach added another goal five minutes into the second half on an assist by
Alyssa Kennedy, but that is where the scoring would end.
"It's u
nfortunate that we ran out of daylight and couldn't play an overtime period because we were outstanding during the second half and had all the momentum late in the game," Ripon Head Coach Sam Schroeder said. "I'm really proud of how we fought back from a slow start, and we'll take the positives from this game into the next one."
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel to Wisconsin Lutheran. That game will begin at Noon in Milwaukee.Â
