FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Ripon women's tennis team put forth a tremendous effort during their 2015 season opener, but it was not enough, as they were narrowly edged by Marian University, 5-4. The Red Hawks won four of their six singles matches, but saw Marian take all three doubles matches.

Maddie VandenHouten won her number one singles match, 6-1, 6-1, while Courtney Olson added a victory at the number three flight, 6-4, 6-1. Samantha Kiesner and Carly Wesner also earned a singles victory at the number five and six flights, respectively. Kiesner won her match 6-2, 6-4, while Wesner was victorious 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles play, VandenHouten and Olson teamed up at the top flight, which was won by Marian, 9-7, in what was the most competitive doubles match of the day.

The Red Hawks will look for their first victory of the season on Thursday against MSOE in what is the Red Hawks' home opener. That match will begin at 4 p.m. at Larson Courts in Ripon.
