MENOMONEE, Wis. - The Ripon College tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating Bethany Lutheran 9-0, before losing to UW-Stout by a score of 6-3.
Against Bethany Lutheran, Ripon was victorious at the top four singles flights, while winning the other two by default. The Red Hawks also won the top two doubles matches, with the third going their way by default. In singles play, Maddie VandenHouten and Courtney Olson won at number one and two singles, respectively, by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-0. Lucero Pena added a victory at the third flight, 6-3, 6-2, while Samantha Kiesner also won in straight sets at the fourth flight, 6-1, 6-0. In doubles play, VandenHouten and Olson teamed up at the top flight to win 8-2, while Pena and Kiesner won at the second flight, 8-1.
In Ripon's second match of the day, the Red Hawks put up a fight before losing to UW-Stout, 6-3. VandenHouten again won her top flight singles match against the Blue Devils, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6, while Kiesner was victorious at the fifth flight, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3. In doubles play, VandenHouten and Olson teamed up to win at the top flight for the second time in as many matches, earning the victory by a score of 8-4.
The Red Hawks will be in action again next weekend when they'll travel to Milwaukee to take on Alverno College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
