GRINNELL, Iowa - The Ripon College women's soccer team won their third consecutive game Saturday afternoon, shutting out Grinnell, 1-0, as the Red Hawks moved into second place in the Midwest Conference standings.
Ripon (6-3-1, 2-1-0 MWC) waited until the second half to score the game's only goal, with
Mikayla Huesman doing the honors in the 67th minute. The goal, which was Huesman's first of the season, was assisted by
Rachel Bautzmann.
"This was an absolutely fantastic win today against a very talented and well coached Grinnell team," Ripon Head Coach Sam Schroeder said. "This was by far our best performance this year and we needed every ounce of that effort.
Jessica Bykowski played all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making four saves for her first career shutout. Her counterpart, Katy Oldach also played the entire game, saving eight shots.
"I'm really proud of the maturity we showed late in the game and Jessica Bykowski had an unbelievable performance," Schroeder said. "If we play like that going forward, this will be a special year for our team."
Ripon will try to extend their winning streak to four games next weekend when they'll travel to Knox College on Saturday. That game will begin at 11 a.m. in Galesburg, Ill.
