Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Red Hawks Narrowly Lose To Grinnell

RIPON, Wis. - After going 14 games without a loss to start the season, Ripon's women's soccer team has now lost two in a row after a 3-2 setback to Grinnell College Saturday afternoon. Grinnell also held a shot advantage of 19-4, including 11-2 in the first half.

Grinnell (8-6-2, 5-2-1 MWC) opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a goal by Valencia Alverez. One minute later, Ripon tied things up when Morgan Johnson scored on a shot over the Goal Keepers outstretched hand, for her sixth goal of the season. Kaylee Tadych assisted on the play, giving her a school record 45 career assists, which is just one shy of the Midwest Conference record. That tie wouldn't last long, as Grinnell reclaimed the lead two minutes later on Carolyn Silverman's seventh goal of the year. Silverman added another goal in the 33rd minute on a breakaway to give the Pioneers a 3-1 halftime lead.

The second half was played evenly with neither team able to capitalize on a scoring opportunity until the 84th minute when Tadych notched her 10th goal of the season to cut Grinnell's lead in half on an assist from Abbie Maule with just under seven minutes left in regulation. That is as close as Ripon would get however, as Grinnell's defense held down the stretch.

Ripon will try to get back to their winning ways on Wednesday when they'll travel to Lawrence University. That game will begin at 7 p.m. in Appleton, Wis. and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/#live.
