Ripon Drops Season Opener To Wisconsin Lutheran

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. -
Ripon's women's tennis team narrowly lost their first match of the season Thursday afternoon, falling to Wisconsin Lutheran 5-4.

The Red Hawks won the majority of their doubles matches. Maddie VandenHouten teamed up with Morgan Makar at the top flight, winning 8-2, while Samantha Kiesner and Carly Wesner's number two doubles team was victorious by a score of 8-4.

"I was very impressed with our doubles teams as we picked up two wins at the number one and two flights," Head Coach Jim Borell said. "Both duos worked as a team and set up their partners for the put away shot, just as we had worked on in practice."

Ripon also won their top two singles matches. VandenHouten earned a win at the top flight by a score of 6-1, 6-1, while Makar won at the number two flight, 7-6, 4-6, 10-6.

"Morgan and Samatha each had e?????xcellent efforts in singles play, coming back after being down in their second sets, while Maddy Salzer and freshman Katelyn Peroutka put up quite a fight at the fifth and sixth flights, making their opponent work over an hour to defeat them," said Borell.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Saturday when they'll travel to Milwaukee to take on Alverno College.
