RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon women's tennis team won one of their two matches Saturday afternoon, both against Midwest Conference foes, improving their MWC record to 3-2 on the year. The Red Hawks defeated Beloit 8-1 in the nightcap after losing 9-0 to Lake Forest earlier in the day.
In their win against Beloit, Ripon won all six of their singles matches. Maddie VandenHouten was victorious 6-1, 6-2 at the top flight, while
Morgan Makar won her number two flight match 6-2, 6-1.
Samantha Kiesner and
Carly Wesner won at the third and fourth flights by scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively. Madeline Salzer also won by a score of 6-0, 6-0 at the number five flight, while
Katelyn Peroutka was on the winning end of a 6-3, 6-2 score at the sixth flight.
In doubles play against the Buccaneers, VandenHouten and Makar teamed up to win their number one match 8-3, while the team of Wesner and Kiesner was victorious at the second flight by a score of 9-7.
Ripon will hope to build on that victory Sunday when they'll travel to St. Norbert College. That match will begin at 9 a.m. in De Pere, Wis.
