RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season Saturday, falling to Maranatha Baptist by a score of 5-1. The Red Hawks were very much in the game at halftime, but three unanswered second half goals by Maranatha proved to be the difference in the game.
Maranatha (2-0) never trailed in the game, scoring their first goal in the 10th minute on Wira Wama's first goal of the season. Caleb Walters added his first of the year later in the half before
Paul Karls got Ripon (1-1) on the board in the 29th minute on a shot to the upper right corner of the goal, with
Logan Wright getting credit with the assist.
In the second half, Wama extended Maranatha's lead with a pair of goals, giving him a hat trick. Andrew Ice also scored for the Sabercats on a rebound to the lower left corner of the goal.
The teams were more evenly matched than the score indicated, with Maranatha holding a 14-12 shot advantage.
Jimmy Amedeo played the entire game at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making six saves. His counterpart, Randal Larson, saved nine shots, while also playing all 90 minutes.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll host Edgewood College at 4:30 p.m.
