KOHLER, Wis. - For the first time in four years, Ripon's women's tennis team has won their season opener. The Red Hawks defeated Lakeland University 5-4 Friday night to begin the season on a positive note.

In singles play, both teams won three flights. Ripon was victorious at the top flight, which saw Courtney Olson win by a score of 7-6, 7-5. MacKenzie Warner also won her match at number three singles by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 10-1, while Rachel Hicks won 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 at the fifth flight.

In doubles play, Ripon won two of the three matches. Olson teamed up with Morgan Makar at the top flight to win 8-6. Warner and Hicks also teamed up to win 9-8 (7-3) at number two doubles.

The Red Hawks will look to continue building momentum on Saturday when they'll play matches against University of Dubuque and Dominican (Ill.) at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Both matches will be played at Larson Courts in Ripon.
