GALESBURG, Ill. - One-hundred ten minutes couldn't decide a winner during Friday's Midwest Conference Tournament semi-final game between Ripon and the host Knox College Prairie Fire. After two scoreless overtimes, the two teams were tied at one, leading to a shootout, which saw Knox come out on top with a 4-2 advantage to advance to Saturday's MWC Tournament Championship Game.
Ripon (7-10-2) struck first in the game, breaking a scoreless tie just nine minutes into the first half on
Paige Pierce's league-leading 17th goal of the season, thanks to an assist from
Maeve Kim. That lead lasted six minutes, until Knox's Lydia Mitchell netted her eighth goal of the year to tie the score at one.
Both teams had their opportunities after that, but neither could break through for another goal, leading the the shootout. In the five-player shootout, both teams made their first kick and missed their second. Ripon then missed their third, helping Knox (12-4-3) seize the opportunity by making their next three kicks to advance.
Both Goal Keepers were phenomenal throughout the game, as they each played all 110 minutes and were also each in goal during the shootout.
Miye Aoki-Kramer made 15 saves for the Red Hawks, while Knox's Sierra Daniger saved one shot.
Ripon finishes the season with 45 goals, which is tied for the fifth-most in a single season in program history. They also recorded five shutouts on the year, which ranks seventh in program history, while recording 172 saves, which ranks fourth.
