RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon men's soccer team won for the third time in their last four games Tuesday afternoon, getting out to a 2-0 halftime lead against Maranatha Baptist, and holding on for the 2-1 victory. The Red Hawks possessed the ball for much of the day, outshooting the Sabercats by a 22-5 margin, includiong 12-3 in the first half.
Ripon (3-4-0) got on the board quickly, breaking a scoreless tie less than seven minutes into the game when
Devin Hoaglin scored his second goal of the season on assists from
Braden Kobus and
Eugene Pliska. Just over seven minutes later, Ripon found the back of the net again when Pliska assisted on Grant Grywalsy's second goal of the season.
Maranatha's lone goal came in the 62nd minute, but Ripon's defense stifled the Sabercats (0-7-0) the rest of the game. Ripon Goal Keeper
Cole Jurish played all 90 minutes between the pipes, making one save, while Maranatha's Andrew Taylor also played the entire game at Goal Keeper, saving five shots.
The Red Hawks will try to keep this momentum going on Sunday when they'll open their conference season at Lake Forest. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Lake Forest, Ill., with LiveStats available atÂ
