RIPON, WIs. - Ripon's women's tennis team opened the 2019 season in style Friday afternoon, defeating Lakeland University 9-0. The Red Hawks won all six singles matches fairly easily, while also winning all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-13.
In doubles play,
Hannah Ryback teamed up with freshman
Tamera Holland to win 8-6, while
Faith Nielsen and
MacKenzie Warner won their number two flight 8-0.
Sarah Weber and
Madison Rostollan also won by a score of 8-7.
Ryback was also victorious at number one singles by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Nielsen and Warner won their second and third flights by scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 7-5, 6-1, respectively, while Holland won her first-ever collegiate match 6-2, 6-2 at the fourth flight. Weber and Rostollan were also victorious at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively, by scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-3.
Ripon (1-0) will try to keep that momentum going on Thursday when they'll host UW-Oshkosh. That match is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Larson Courts.
