RIPON, Wis. - In what was a seesaw battle for much of the day, Ripon's men's soccer team lost to Cornell College Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-2. Cornell also out-shot the Red Hawks by a 19-10 margin.
Cornell (8-2-0, 2-0-0 MWC) broke a scoreless tie in the fifth minute when Galen Westervelt assisted on a George Archer goal. Two minutes later, Ripon tied the score at one with a goal by
Braden Kobus, assisted by
Eli Dietzel. Archer would answer just a couple minutes later with his second goal of the game, giving Cornell a 2-1 halftime lead.
In the opening minutes of the second half,
Tim Geocaris scored off a pass from
Alex Casarez to tie the score at two. That tie lasted until the 58th minute when Cornell took the lead for good on a Zach Miller goal. The Rams would add an insurance goal by Justin Howe off a corner kick later in the game.
Kalen Narance played the entire game at Goal Keeper for the Red Hawks, making eight saves. Cornell's Will Bickel and Jeremy Spina split time in the net for the Rams, combining to save six shots.
Ripon will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll welcome Saint Mary's (Minn.) to town. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Prairie Field in Ripon, and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
