Women's Soccer Falls To Concordia-Chicago In Red Hawks Return To Competition

RIPON, Wis. - Playing their first game since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ripon's women's soccer team returned the the field Sunday with a 4-1 loss to Concordia-Chicago. CUC also out-shot the Red Hawks by a 29-11 margin, including 18-5 in the first half.

Concordia-Chicago began teh scoring in the eighth minute when Samantha Goodlett scored off a cross, with the assist going to Cecilia Kochanek. Ripon would tie things up in the 28th minute when Camrie Schmitz notched her 26th career goal in just her 38th game with the Red Hawks. That places her 10th in program history for career goals, just three shy of the seventh-highest total. Concordia would break that tie with a goal by Allie Brown in the 38th minute, assisted by Goodlett.

Goodlett notched her second assist of the game in the opening minutes of the second half when she found Kochanek for a goal and a 3-1 lead. The Cougars would cap the scoring a few minutes later when Goodlett was credited with her third assist of the contest on a goal by Janette Moreno.

Ripon Goal Keeper Stefani Zeiger recorded 13 saves, while playing all 90 minutes. Her counterpart Kassie Silenzi also played the entire game for Concordia-Chicago, making five saves.

The Red Hawks will be back in action next weekend when they'll travel to Lake Forest College on Saturday.
