Ripon's women's tennis team traveled to Iowa on Saturday to take part in their first conference matches of the 2021 season. Ripon lost to perennial power Grinnell College 9-0, before also being edged by Cornell, 6-3.
In their first match of the day, Ripon (3-4, 0-2 MWC) lost to Grinnell (3-0, 1-0 MWC), which has now won 16 consecutive conference matches dating back to the 2018-19 season. It also marked the Pioneers' seventh consecutive win against Ripon, dating back to 2001. The Red Hawks dropped all six singles matches, while also losing all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-2.
Ripon would then fall in the nightcap to Cornell (2-4, 1-1 MWC) by a score of 6-3. The Red Hawks' earned one team point in both doubles and singles play by winning by default.
Sarah Weber also earned a point for the team, winning her number three singles match 6-4, 6-1.
Ripon will try to rebound next weekend when they'll host Monmouth and Illinois College on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Both matches will be played at the Ripon High School Tennis Courts.
