RIPON, Wis. – Ripon College women's tennis team opened Midwest Conference action by hosting a pair of matches with Grinnell College and Cornell College (Iowa) today.
In the first match this morning, Grinnell (2-1, 2-0 MWC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. The Pioneers never looked back as they claimed all six singles matches and took the contest, 9-0.
Later in the day,
Chase Polyak and
Tia Endrizzi got Ripon (2-6, 0-2 MWC) on the board early taking second doubles 8-6 to go up 1-0. Cornell was able to reclaim the lead with an 8-5 win at first doubles and an 8-1 win at third doubles to make it, 2-1.
Cornell added to its lead as it swept all six singles matches to win the match, 8-1. The Red Hawks fought hard in both first and third singles as each match went the full three sets and only lost by a point in each set in second singles.
Ripon is home again on Tuesday, September 20 at 4 pm as it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in non-conference action.
