Red Hawks Fall to League-Leading Cornell

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's soccer program had its hands full with the Midwest Conference leaders on Saturday, as the Red Hawks dropped a 2-0 contest to Cornell at Hopp Stadium.

In a match that was riddled with physicality, both teams had chances to score. Cornell (5-6-3, 3-1-0 MWC) got on the board in the 23rd minute with a goal by Aidan Lerch, his seventh of the season. The Rams took a 1-0 lead over Ripon (3-4-5, 0-3-2 MWC) into the intermission.

In the second half, following a foul in the box, George Archer connected on a penalty kick for the Rams in the 69th minute to double the lead and put the match out of reach. This was also his seventh score of the season.

Cornell had a 17-8 advantage in shots and an 8-5 lead in shots on goal. Tim Geocaris, Andre Robertson and Jacob Oppeneer each tallied a pair of shots. Nick Bellisle and Abner Contreras also contributed a shot.
