APPLETON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's soccer program took a second half lead against Lawrence on Wednesday night, but the Vikings tied it up in the final moments as Ripon settled for a 1-1 draw against the Vikings at the Banta Bowl.
After a scoreless first half,
Eli Dietzel ripped a shot past the Lawrence (0-9-6, 0-3-4 MWC) keeper on a pass from
Jacob Oppeneer in the 52nd minute to give Ripon (6-4-6, 1-3-3 MWC) a critical lead. Dietzel's goal was his fourth of the season, while the assist was Oppeneer's second.
Ripon came within three minutes of a clean sheet and its first win at Lawrence since 2009, but a late unassisted goal by Rodrigo Angulo in the 87th minute evened the score for good.
In a balanced offensive effort,
Andre Robertson led the squad with 3 shots, while Dietzel and Oppeneer each had 2.
As a team, Lawrence had a 18-12 advantage in shots, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal.
Sam Jahnke played all 90 minutes in net, collecting 8 saves.
