CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Ripon men's soccer program suffered its first defeat of the season on Monday, falling 3-1 to Coe College at Clark Field.
Coe (4-2-1) stuck first in the 8th minute with an unassisted goal to take the early lead. Less than 10 minutes later, the Kohawks found the back of the net again, putting Ripon (2-1-3) in a two-goal deficit.
The Red Hawks would not go away, however, and after a foul in the box – the only foul of the game for either team –
Eli Dietzel had a penalty kick opportunity in the 52nd minute. The senior captain delivered, scoring his second goal of the season and cutting the Coe lead in half.
Ripon was unable to find the back of the net again while Coe tacked on an insurance goal in the 76th minute to put the match out of reach.
Ripon was outshot by the Kohawks 18-1. Coe had 8 shots on goal, while Dietzel's goal was the only shot on net for the Red Hawks.
Goalkeeper
Drew Seyfer made his first career start and played all 90 minutes in net. He made five saves.
