RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon women's tennis program opened the home portion of its Midwest Conference schedule on Saturday, falling to Illinois College 8-1 and Monmouth College 5-4.
 
Both matches were played indoors inside the Willmore Center due to wet conditions outdoors.
 
In the morning match against IC (2-6, 1-2 MWC), Ripon (1-7, 0-3 MWC) was competitive in doubles but was unable to walk away with a point, trailing 3-0 leading into singles play.
 
Once in singles, the Lady Blues took a pair of straight-set matches on courts four and three before Chase Polyak was a 6-3, 6-1 winner on court one over Hannah Lueke. This trimmed IC's lead to 5-1.
 
IC closed the morning with three more straight-set wins.
 
In the afternoon match against Monmouth (4-5, 1-3 MWC), Allison Pavlovec and Yeva Pipan teamed up to claim an 8-0 win on the third court and give Ripon a 1-0 lead. From there, the Scots would take the next two doubles matches to hold a 2-1 lead with singles play looming.
 
Monmouth opened singles play with three consecutive straight-set wins on courts one, two and three to earn the overall match victory.
 
Still, the Red Hawks would find success in singles to end the afternoon on a high note. Andreanna Wilke was a 6-1, 6-2 victor on court four over Kimber Calvert. Next up was freshman Isabella DeMeuse, who dispatched Maddie Psomas 6-0, 6-1 on court six.
 
To round out the match, Pipan claimed a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Julia Mheidze on the fifth line.
 
NEXT UP: Ripon stays home for a single match next week, welcoming in Lawrence on Saturday, September 30 at 11 a.m. This will be the Red Hawks final home match of the fall.
