RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon track and field programs competed in their final home meet before the Midwest Conference Championships on Saturday, hosting the annual Dick Hendricks Invite inside the Willmore Center.
Highlighting the meet was a pair of school records.
Jenny Cortes easily set a new school record in the mile with a time of 5:08.11, nearly three seconds quicker than the mark that had stood since 2013. Cortes' performance not only earned her a first-place finish but was over 13 seconds ahead of the next participant. Additionally,
Jacoby Cefalu set the 60-meter dash school record for the fourth time this season, running the finals in 6.89 for the 27th-fastest 60-dash time in Division III this season. He won that event and defeated a pair of Marquette runners in the finals.
A host of Red Hawk women had standout performances on Saturday from the get-go.
Gabby Allard won the 5,000-meter run in 19:20.83, over 25 seconds clear of the runner-up finisher. In the 400-meter run,
Madylyn Woyak came in third with a time of 1:02.52. Additionally,
Isabelle Willett paced Ripon in the 800-meter run, also taking third in 2:29.50.
On the men's side,
Matt Seeber kicked off the meet with a 15:19.83 time in the 5,000-meter run, good for a third-place finish.
Christian Kuwaye also took third with a 4:23.75 showing in the mile, while
Jacob Davies took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 23.49. In addition, he recorded a time of 51.88 in the 400-meter dash to take fifth in a competitive race.
The men's 800-meter run saw a trio of Red Hawks earn top-five finishes:
Rainier Villanueva was second in 1:57.27,
Jacob Jumbeck took third in 1:58.01 and Kuwaye was fourth with a 1:58.30 showing.
In short-distance,
Bridget Finn netted herself a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdle finals (9.80), while
Dorian Phillips took fifth in the same event on the men's side (9.20). In the finals of the 60-meter dash,
Sidney Hoffa placed sixth in 8.29.
Ripon once again performed well in field events. In the women's high jump, Finn and
Chloe Studinski went 1-2, producing scores of 1.55m and 1.50m respectively. Hoffa won the long jump in 5.48m, the 29th-best long jump score in Division III this season.
Dameco Walker was a runner-up in the long jump (6.70m), while
Isaac San Diego collected a sixth-place finish in the pole vault (4.09m) and
Kalyn Otzelberger took seventh in the shot put (12.48m). Otzelberger also produced the seventh-best weight throw with a score of 13.99m. In the men's shot put,
Braeden Picard (13.66m) and
Noah Hanson (13.15m) took fourth and sixth, respectively.
Both the men and women came in third place.
On Friday,
Alison Denamur and
Mikayla Flyte ran at the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan, against athletes ranging from Division I to junior college. Both athletes solely ran the 5,000-meter run; Denamur came in 14th with a time of 18:07.08 while Flyte was right behind her, taking 15th in 18:11.63.
