STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Ripon women's soccer program took down Buena Vista 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at J. Leslie Rollins Stadium & Peterson Field in the Red Hawks' final non-conference tune-up before Midwest Conference play starts next Saturday.
Ripon (2-5-2) peppered Buena Vista (5-2-1) in the early going, recording the first five shots of the game. On the Red Hawks' fourth attempt,
Alyssa Klementzos found the back of the net unassisted in the 11th minute to give Ripon an early lead. The sophomore now has four goals in 2024 to lead the team.
Ripon led 1-0 at the half, out-shooting the Beavers 6-3 in the first 45 minutes, though both teams had two shots on goal.
The Red Hawks padded their lead in the 80th minute after controlling the first 30 minutes of the second stanza. Following a free kick by Klementzos, the ball bounced off
Martina Palazzolo and caromed to
Rebecca Roszel, who rocketed the ball into the net for the sophomore's first goal of 2024. From there, Ripon kept BVU out of the goal to secure its second win in its last three tries.
Ripon held a commanding 19-5 advantage in shots over the Beavers, and had seven shots on goal to BVU's two. Klementzos had a team-high four shots for the Red Hawks, while
Cielo Gutierrez,
Alex Siudzinski and Roszel each had three. Palazzolo (two) had multiple shots as well.
Britt Hable picked up the victory in goal, playing all 90 minutes and tallying two saves.
UP NEXT: Ripon opens Midwest Conference play next Saturday (September 28) as the Red Hawks take on Illinois College at 1:30 p.m. in Jacksonville, Illinois.
