Red Hawks Tie Fighting Scots In Conference Contest

RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's soccer team (3-7-5, 1-2-3 MWC) ended Saturday's Midwest Conference match up in a tie ot the visiting Monmouth College Fighting Scots (6-5-3, 2-2-2 MWC).

The first half ended in a slow battle of possession, with both teams operating up the sidelines, struggling to find consistent offensive opportunities. The Red Hawks would take three shots in the first, but fail to put any on target, while the Scots found no shot attempts at all.

The second saw more action, as Lizzy Schmitz (Sheboygan, Wis., Sheboygan Lutheran HS) and Alex Siudzinski (Green Bay, Wis., Green Bay Southwest HS) put shots on goal for the Red Hawks six minutes into the half, but both attempts would be stopped by the goalkeeper. Ripon's last shot on goal came late, as Schmitz attempted to convert a corner kick in the 88th minute, with the Monmouth goalkeeper again negating the attempt. The Red Hawks earned 10 more shots than the visitors across the game, holding the Monmouth offense to zero shots on goal and only two shots across the ninety minutes, with the final whistle sounding on a 0-0 tie despite the disparity.

Today's tie puts the Red Hawks at 6th in the conference standings with two more MWC contests left to play, but only two points behind Grinnell and Monmouth, who sit tied for the fourth spot and a playoff position. The Red Hawks continue their schedule at home next Saturday, Oct 25, against the Beloit College Buccaneers. Beloit enters the game 2-10-2 this season and 1-4-1 in conference play, coming off a 1-3 loss to Grinnell.
