PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's soccer team (9-6-2, 3-3-1 MWC) fell to the Lakeland University Muskies (7-10-2, 2-8-2 NACC) in the final non-conference match up of the season. Forward
Andre Robertson (O'Fallon, Ill., O'Fallon Township HS) scored the Red Hawks' sole goal of the contest, his 7th of the year.
Wednesday's game was the tale of two halves, beginning with an immediate Ripon disadvantage as the Muskies found the back of the net in just the 2nd minute. Quick to respond, Robertson's goal came in the 17th minute, leveling the contest thanks to an assist from sophomore
Ian Martinez (Chicago, Ill., Notre Dame College Prep). Both teams traded shot attempts as the first wore on, until a yellow card in the box gave Lakeland a penalty kick in the final minutes of the half. The Muskies' attempt was successful, putting the hosts up 2-1 heading into the break.
While the first half saw Lakeland out shoot the Red Hawks eight to five, the second half would consist of seven Red Hawks attempts and just one Muskie shot. Putting two shots on goal across the 45 minutes, Ripon's best attempts would prove inconsequential, with time running out in a 1-2 loss against the non-conference opponent. Both teams would be even on fouls across the game, tallying twelve a piece, while the penalty kick foul would end as the only card handed out in the contest.
The Red Hawks return to action for the final regular season game of the year, taking on Lawrence University. The Vikings enter the final game winless this season, holding a record of 0-10-5.
