RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's tennis team came up short in Thursday's home match against Lawrence University, falling 6-1 in Midwest Conference play.
The Red Hawks opened with a solid showing in doubles action, as senior
Allison Pavlovec (Decorah, Iowa, Decorah HS) and sophomore
Isabella Engstrom (Ripon, Wis., Ripon HS) cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Despite that effort, the Vikings claimed victories at the top two doubles spots to secure the opening point and a 1-0 match lead.Â
In singles play, Pavlovec continued her strong play, earning Ripon's lone point with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 comback win at the No. 5 position. Junior
Jessi GriepentrogÂ
(Freedom, Wis., Fox Valley Lutheran HS) also pushed her match to three sets at No. 3 singles, splitting the first two before ultimately falling 6-0 in the third.Â
With the loss, Ripon moves to 2-10, while Lawrence improves to 4-6. The Red Hawks will look to bounce back this Saturday, Oct 11, as they take on Monmouth and Illinois College at home at 9 am and 3 pm.
