Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Ends Even With WLC, Hoth Scores Late

RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's soccer team opened their 2025 season with a 1-1 tie over visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College. Freshman Brodie Hoth (Fleming Island, Fla., Fleming Island HS) would score in the 87th minute to even out the score.

Both teams struggled for consistent looks at the goal early, carving out just a handful of attempts early in the opening half. In the 31st minute, a lower-90 hit from WLC would give the Warriors a 1-0 edge over the hosts, with the visitors picking up one more shot attempt, saved by goalkeeper Drew Seyfer (Thiensville, Wis., Homestead HS), to end the first half.

The second would open with Ripon coming out strong, putting a handful of shots on goal within the opening five minutes of the half. In the 70th minute, senior Matthew Hegge (Lake Villa, Ill., Warren HS) would send a shot screaming against the top woodwork, just missing the mark as the Red Hawks looked to level the score. As time winded down, Hegge would find himself in the middle of the most successful Ripon play of the game, setting up Hoth with just three minutes left to play to even the score 1-1. Both teams looked frantically for scoring opportunities as the clock ran down, but the final whistle would sound in a 1-1 tie after a final WLC shot attempt.

Ripon would earn four more shot attempts across the contest, including putting two more shots on goal than the visitors. The Warriors committed to a physical play style, committing 16 fouls to the Red Hawks' 8.

Ripon returns to action this Sunday, Aug 31, for an away game at Marian University. The Sabres also enter the game with a 0-0-1 record, coming off a scoreless tie to Carthage.
