RIPON, Wis. -- Ripon College is excited to announce the hiring of Sylviann Momont as the new Head Men's and Women's Track and Field Coach. Momont comes to the Red Hawks after a two year stint with UW-Oshkosh as an assistant coach, specializing in multi-events, hurdles and assisting with sprinters. Momont was the recipient of the 2024 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association North Region Men's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year, earning the honor following a third place finish at the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Championships and a second place finish in the Division III Men's Outdoor Championship.

"Sylviann's student-centered approach and clear vision for the future of our program immediately stood out during the search process." Vice President and Director of Athletics Chris Schumacher said. "Coupled with her exceptional career as a student-athlete and the impact she's already made in the coaching world, it was clear she is someone who can lead and elevate our track and field program. Her passion, experience, and competitive drive will be a tremendous asset to our department and, most importantly, to our student-athletes."

Over her time with the Titans, Momont has assisted in the development of eight All-Americans, also helping the women's program to a second-place Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championship finish, their best since 2015.

Prior to her time with the Titans, Momont spent time as an assistant coach for her alma mater, UW-Stevens Point. A standout athlete for the Pointers, Momont received six NCAA All-American honors, two each for Pentathlon, Heptathlon, and High Jump. A five-time WIAC champion, Momont set school records in both the Pentathlon and Heptathlon for UWSP, also collecting the 2017 UWSP Freshman Athlete of the Year, 2018-2019 Subway Female Individual Sport Athlete of the Year, 2019 UWSP Individual Female Performance of the Year and 2019 WIAC Field Performer of the Meet Indoor & Outdoor awards. Momont would earn a B.S. in business management with a coaching certificate, also completing her M.S. in business administration at UW-Stevens Point.

It takes a village to cultivate a successful culture within a program, and I am eager to be working with a competitive and motivated coaching staff."

Momont takes over a pair of programs with strong results. Men's track and field has captured three consecutive Midwest Conference (MWC) Indoor and MWC Outdoor titles for the Red Hawks, winning in 2022, 2023, and 2024, before placing third and second, respectively, for the 2025 season. The women's program placed fourth at the MWC Indoor Championships in 2025 after also capturing three consecutive titles from 2022-2024, while taking home second place at the MWC Outdoor Championships after back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024.

Momont and the Red Hawks open their season at home for the Ripon Winter Open on Saturday, Dec 6, in the Willmore Center.
