RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's soccer team added to their win streak this Sunday, Sept 14, beating the UW-Stout Blue Devils 3-0. Defender
Eric Staszak (Deerfield, Wis., Deerfield HS) and forward
Will Rockwell (Millstadt, Ill., Belleville West HS) both recorded their first goals of the season, and their careers, in the game.
It took just five minutes for the Red Hawks to open scoring against the hosts, with Rockwell giving Ripon a one goal advantage after four minutes of play. Stout would attempt to answer immediately after the resulting kick off, but would miss wide right, with the attempt marking the first and only UW shot of the game. The first half would continue all Ripon, with the Red Hawks earning seven shot attempts to the Blue Devil's single attempt, but the Stout defense would hold strong, sending the game into halftime 1-0.
The second half would see more of the first, as Ripon came out attacking. The Blue Devils would defend effectively for the first twenty minutes of the half, until Staszak would convert a pass from midfielder
Isaiah Martinez (Las Vegas, Nev., Palo Verde HS), putting the Red Hawks up 2-0 in the 66th minute. Not yet finished, the Red Hawks would earn one more goal before the end of the contest, with forward
Carmine Di Miele (Elmhurst, Ill., York Community HS) finishing an assist from forward
Moaye Yao (Oregon, Wis., Vel Phillips Memorial HS) late in the game. The Red Hawks would hold the scoreline, with the whistle confirming a 3-0 Ripon win.
The Red Hawks return to action this Wednesday against another UW opponent, taking on Stevens Point at Hopp Stadium. The Pointers enter the contest 5-0 this season, coming off a 4-1 win over Concordia University Chicago at the time of writing.
