Red Hawks Hold Off Rockford for 3-2 Home Victory

RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's soccer team earned their second straight win, defeating Rockford University 3-2 in a hard-fought match at Hopp Stadium.

The Red Hawks grabbed the lead late in the first half when freshman Carmine Di Miele (Elmhurst, Ill., York Community HS) converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute to make it 1-0. Just two minutes later, Di Miele set up senior Finley Manning (St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, Holy Heart of Mary HS), who doubled the advantage with a goal in the 39th minute, giving Ripon a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Ripon wasted no time after the break as sophomore Seth Schroeder (Iron Ridge, Wis., Winnebago Lutheran Academy) scored in the 46th minute off a pass from freshman Isaiah Martinez (Las Vegas, Nev., Palo Verde HS) to extend the lead 3-0.

Rockford answered with a penalty kick goal in the 49th minute before adding another goal in the 81st minute, cutting the lead to 3-2. Despite the late push, the Red Hawks held on to secure the victory.

Ripon outshot Rockford 21-7 on the day, while the Regents committed 15 fouls and received one yellow card compared to 13 fouls and one yellow card for the Red Hawks.

With the win, Ripon improves to 2-1-1 on the season and will return to action Tuesday, Sep 9, hosting Emmaus University at Hopp Stadium at 4 pm.
