RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's soccer team put together a commanding performance, defeating Rockford University 8-0 at home for their first win of the season.
The scoring began early as
Rebecca Roszel (Fremont, Calif., Irvington HS) opened the floodgates in the 5th minute off a set up from junior
Martina Palazzolo (Sterling Heights, Mich., Utica Ford HS). Roszel struck again in the 13th minute, this time assisted by senior
Cielo Gutierrez (Oshkosh, Wis., Valley Christian School), give the Red Hawks a quick 2-0 advantage.
Ripon continued to pile on the offense in the first half, with freshman
Cecilia Strom (Ripon, Wis., Ripon HS) finding the back of the net in the 26th minute thanks to a feed from sophomore
Viviana Alba (Hanover Park, Ill., Bartlett HS). An own goal by Rockford and a late first-half strike from Gutierrez, assisted by Strom, sent Ripon into the break up 5-0.
The Red Hawks wasted no time adding to their lead in the second half. Freshman
Avery Brinkman (Cheyenne, Wyo., Cheyenne East HS) scored right after halftime on a pass from junior
Jadyn Johnson (Seymour, Wis., Seymour Community HS) before sophomore defenderÂ
Alaina Wisteria (Mukwonago, Wis., Mukwonago HS) added a goal of her own to make it 7-0. Alba closed out the scoring in the 70th minute, assisted by Sophomore
Addison Misner (Richland, Mich., Gull Lake HS), sealing the 8-0 victory.Â
With the win, the Ripon women's soccer team improves to 1-2-1 on the season and will look to carry the momentum into their next matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Elmhurst University.
